FUNERAL TODAY FOR DET. FROIS

Veteran Police Officer Expires at 57

Funeral Services for police Det. Cyril Frois, veteran of 20 years with the New Orleans Police Department will be conducted at 11 AM Saturday from the auxiliary funeral home of Jacob Schoen and Son Inc, 3827 Canal.

Religious services will follow in Incarnate Word Church, 8316 Apricot, with burial in Metairie Cemetery.

Det. Frois, who won numerous commendations for outstanding work in murder investigations, died early Friday at Mercy Hospital after a brief illness.  He was 57.

He recently served as an instructor in various parts of the state for the Louisiana University police school lecture series.

Before joining the force in 1942, he was a semi-pro baseball catcher and an investigator for New Orleans furniture stores.  First he was a police supernumerary, then a member of the automobile theft division, and finally a homicide detective.

He had served as temporary commander of the homicide division and had assisted in missing persons division operations.

A New Orleans native, he resided at 2527 Joliet.

Survivors include his widow, the former Etta Mae O’Rourke; a son, Timothy Frois; two daughters, Mrs. Shirley Preston and Miss Jeanne Frois; a sister, Miss Audrey Froisl two brothers, Theodore and Ernest Frois and three granchildren, all of New Orleans.
